Simon's story alerted James to the corruption of the local government in supporting a for-profit prison and prompted his decision to return to Calvintown, buying the local newspaper and offering Simon a job working for him. One of the teens was a boy named Simon Kirby, who had been left homeless after his mother was sentenced to 10 years in prison for petty theft. When Kelly and James first returned to their aunt's old house in Calvintown, they found it had become home to a group of squatting teenagers. Yet while the episode made it clear what James Olsen had planned for his future, it still raised many questions. This spurred James to buy the local newspaper, hoping that he could be the hero the city needed as both a publisher and a vigilante. Meanwhile, James and Kelly returned to their hometown of Calvintown, discovering that it had fallen upon hard times, languishing under the thumb of a corrupt local government.
